SRP deal boosts Southeast Valley’s water supply

A new agreement between the Salt River Project and the Gila River Indian Community is expected to fortify water and power supplies in the Southeast Valley for decades.

It also will boost agriculture and economic development on the Indian reservation and help to re-establish long-lost riparian habitats. It is viewed as a first step in nailing down water rights for the anticipated future development Superstition Vistas.

“This will assist with our water supply for many years to come,” said Roc Arnett, president of the East Valley Partnership, a public-private consortium that promotes regional economic vitality.
